THE MEDICAL CENTER FOR FEMALE SEXUALITY HIRES NEW SEXUALITY COUNSELOR

April 14, 2009 – Purchase, NY – Due to extensive growth, The Medical Center for Female Sexuality (MCFS) has hired Westfield, NJ, sexuality counselor, Shannon Bertha, DHS, ACS, to facilitate the treatment of additional patients. Bertha will perform preliminary assessments and psychosexual evaluations with new patients. She will also work with the rest of the Center’s team to develop treatment plans for her patients. The unique treatment methodology employed by the Center requires that both a sexuality counselor and a medical professional evaluate every patient. This allows for a holistic treatment program that addresses all aspects of the woman’s difficulties.

"Shannon’s experience and expertise will greatly benefit our patients,” said Bat Sheva Marcus, LMSW, MPH, PhD, the clinical director of the Center. “Her entire career has been dedicated to sexuality and we are pleased to bring her knowledge to our patients.”

Bertha has led numerous workshops and classes on sexual health and sexual enhancement for women. She also worked as a sexuality counselor with Winterberry Counseling. She is a professor of human sexuality at Middlesex County College and Kean University.

Bertha earned her bachelor’s degree from Cook College at Rutgers University. She then attended the Summer Institute on Sexuality at the University of Amsterdam. She earned her master’s degree from New York University. She earned her doctorate in human sexuality from the Institute for Advanced Study of Human Sexuality and expects to complete her PhD this spring. She lives in Westfield, NJ.

The Medical Center for Female Sexuality is one of the only treatment centers in the country to integrate a medical and psychological treatment modality. A medical and psychological team works together to evaluate the issues that might be of concern to the patient.
