PURCHASE, NY – Women will have the opportunity to explore issues affecting different life stages with three workshops conducted by two of the area’s leading women’s healthcare professionals. These workshops will include candid conversation not often available for women and will help women ease the transitions that may come as their life and family circumstances change.
The Women’s Sexual Heath Workshop Series will offer different classes for women at different stages of their lives. The roundtables will be led by Bat Sheva Marcus, LMSW, MPH, director of The Medical Center for Female Sexuality and Kathy Herron, CNM, M.S., certified midwife, founder and manager of Full Circle Women’s Health.
The first workshop, Talking to Your Children About Sex, will take place on Thursday, September 20, 2007. This will include frank information about what ages parents can address different sexual topics with children. This group is appropriate for all parents of children younger than 18.
"Having open discussions with your children about sex is extremely important, starting at a young age," explains Marcus. “Parents always wonder how specific to be with children at different ages. We will help parents to recognize where their kids are developmentally and what they need to know.”
The second workshop, Sex for Grownups, is scheduled for Thursday, October 11, 2007. This group addresses the many issues faced by perimenopausal women (those in the 35-50 year age range). This group is appropriate for all women who want to know what to expect while significant physical, emotional, and social changes take place in their lives.
“As women’s bodies prepare to enter menopause, their lives may change dramatically,” declares Herron. “There is a lot of confusion and concern about this time of life and we want to clarify the issues for women facing these changes.”
The final workshop, Sex and the New Mom, is scheduled on Thursday, November 8, 2007. This discussion will focus on how attendees’ lives will change or have changed with the arrival of children and how to manage it all. This class is appropriate for women considering starting a family, pregnant women, or women with children less than five years of age.
‘This is an amazing and exciting time for moms, but it can also be confusing and frustrating,” explains Marcus. “We want to help these women understand what things are ‘normal’ and what things are changing so that they can be better prepared for the circumstances facing them.”
All workshops will be held in White Plains, NY at Full Circle Family Care, 1241 Mamaroneck Avenue, in its newly-renovated studio. Workshops will begin at 7:00 pm. The cost to attend is $25 or women may register for two groups for $40. To maintain the intimate nature of these meetings, space is limited. For additional information or to reserve a spot, people may contact The Medical Center for Female Sexuality at (914) 328-3700.
