Is Lack of Sex Drive Caused by Physical or Psychological Factors?

A lack of sex drive may be caused by a number of factors, both physical and psychological.

It is unknown whether sexual desire is in itself a physical or psychological phenomenon, but we do know that both can have an impact.

Lack of Sex Drive - Physical Causes
  • Hormonal Imbalance
    • This can occur in women of all ages
    • Drastic changes in sex drive can occur when s woman experiences physiological changes such as: childbirth, menopause, or illness
    • Some pills and medications such as birth control pills and anti-depressants can also contribute to a woman’s lack of sex drive

  • Environment
    • Social and religious upbringing
    • Lack of sexual education
  • High stress levels
    • Difficult work or family situations
  • Inhibitions
    • Issues with self-image
  • Trauma
