Hormone Therapy

Hormones and Their Effect on Women’s Sex Drive

There is so much discussion in the medical profession and in lay circles about how important hormonal balance is to women’s health and well being. That is because the scientific community continue to do more and more research in this area, studying how hormones affect women’s mood, temperature regulation, appetite, sleep patterns, sexual functioning, memory and general mental health.

Most often those discussions center on estrogen replacement in post-menopausal women. This is known as HRT (hormone replacement therapy.) As with many medical interventions there has been varying support for HRT. When the medical community realized that estrogen replacement during menopause could dramatically help women with many of their symptoms there was a great flurry of excitement.

More recently studies have shown that there can be risks associated with estrogen replacement and unfortunately the pendulum has swung dramatically in the other direction.
