Bioidentical Compounds

Are laboratory-synthesized molecules whose structure is identical to a compound that the human body produces naturally.

Bioidentical Hormones

Customized hormones which are chemically made-up to be identical to the body's natural hormone makeup. They are used in hormone therapy.

Dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA)

Dehydroepiandrosterone, is a hormone produced by the adrenal glands. It acts similar to testosterone, and the body will change this hormone into testosterone and estrogen.

Estrogen

The primary female hormone, produced in the ovaries. It plays a primary role in female sexual development. This hormone may be used in Hormone Therapy.

Estrogen Replacement Therapy (ERT)

See Estrogen Therapy.

Estrogen Therapy (ET)

A type of hormone therapy, using estrogen. This treatment is most often used for treating menopause.

Hormone Balance

Hormonal balance occurs when your body produces and releases the appropriate amount of hormones.

Hormone Deficiency

Occurs when your body does not produce enough of any hormone to complete a necessary function. Hormone Therapy may be the selected treatment.

Hormone Imbalance

Or hormonal imbalance, occurs when your body produces and releases too much, or too little, of one or multiple hormones.

Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT)

Hormone Therapy

Also known as:" Hormonal Therapy", is the utilization of hormones such as estrogen, testosterone, and progesterone, for medical treatment.

Progesterone

A hormone produced in the ovaries. It is responsible for preparing the uterus for pregnancy and menstruation. This hormone may be used in Hormone Therapy.

Prolactin

The hormone produced by the pituitary gland, which activates the mammary glands to produce milk for breast feeding. This hormone may be used in Hormone Therapy.

Sex Hormones

The hormones which are responsible for creating sexual development and behavior. These hormones may be used singularly or in combination for Hormone Therapy.

Testosterone

The male hormone, produced in the testicles, it plays a role in a male sexual development and libido. Smaller quantities are produced in women, within the ovaries. May be used in Hormone Therapy.

Testosterone Replacement Therapy for Women

Hormone Therapy which includes Testosterone.
