If You Are Interested in Becoming a Patient, but Live Out of Town. The MCFS has recently responded to requests from patients who live too far away to come see us on a regular basis. We have developed treatment programs specifically for people coming from long distances. These programs are intensive treatment protocols that compress a series of visits into a few days so we can meet distant patients' needs. We have outlined below, the generalized treatment plan for a number of specific and common concerns. Please remember, our practice individualizes treatment for every patient to help ensure success. You will need to have a telephone consult with our clinical director before scheduling your visit to check if you are eligible for an intensive treatment plan. If you would like more information about any of these treatment programs, please call us at (914) 328-3700.Treatment of Low Desire/Arousal/Orgasm With local patients our first appointment is a 1 ½ hour meeting for diagnosis during which time a patient meets with the clinical director to give a psycho-sexual history and with the nurse practitioner for an exam, blood draw and whatever additional tests may be necessary. We then see the patient 2 weeks later for a follow-up appointment once we've reviewed all bloods, tests, notes etc. When a patient is coming from out of town, we schedule a Monday evening appointment and expedite all of the testing so that all the important results will be in for a scheduled follow-up meeting on that Wednesday morning. If the patient is found to need a hormone regimen, we generally want bloods run in our office every 10 weeks or so. For patients from outside our area, we will make arrangements to work with a lab that is local to the patients. We can have some follow up done by telephone but at least 2-3 follow-up appointments during the first year would have to be in person. Later we can taper down. Bottom Line: You will need to be in New York from Monday through Wed and 2-3 other times during the year. Treatment of Vaginismus, Vulvydina and Vulvar Vestibulitus and generalized pain Local patients generally begin treatment at the first appointment. The first appointment is a 1 ½ hour meeting for diagnosis during which time a patient meets with the clinical director to give a psycho-sexual history and with the nurse practitioner for an exam, blood draw and whatever additional tests may be necessary. Desensitization treatment will then begin at that first appointment and will be extremely dependant on the needs and capability of the patient. Appointments then precede with 1-2 times a week treatment. In the case of out-of-town patients, patients will be seen 3 times a week in our office and will be expected to do exercises on their own during the intermediate days. Treatment, depending on the severity of the situation, will generally take 7-12 treatments. Often the patient's problem is alleviated enough at some point that they can return home to finish the treatments by themselves with phone-coaching. Bottom Line: You would need to schedule a two- three week trip to NY but you would not need to make any return trips. Travel Arrangements There are quite a number of hotels in the area of the MCFS. We would be happy to send you information. Additionally, the MCFS realizes that this can be a stressful time in your life and would like, in any way possible, to make your trip here relaxing and fun as well as productive. We will be happy to provide you with a list of spas, shows and museum and entertainment options for your free time while you are here. The MCFS is only a short train ride or car ride from New York City and there is no reason that your trip here can't become a vacation as well as a medical destination. |
